So much of modern business resides in the cloud, that a fast and reliable internet connection is a must-have for productivity in today’s office.
If you are having issues with slow computers, and it concerns all the computers in the office, the issue could be your internet connection! Here are 3 things you can do to see if your network connectivity is slowing you down:
*NOTE* If you’re a Managed Service Client with Meeting Tree Computer, contact us first! We are happy to assist with this and will even contact your internet service provider (ISP) on your behalf. Just call us at (845) 237-2117
- If your internet is usually fast but has been sluggish for everyone in the office, reboot your network – modem, router, and computers. If that doesn’t work, contact your IT department or your ISP.
- If your internet is still slow even after a reboot, you can do a quick check to see what is using up your bandwidth.
To view which Windows apps might be slowing you down access Task Manager via keyboard shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) or type “task manager” in the Start Menu search box. In the Task Manager select the “App history” tab. You will see data usage in both the “Network” and “Metered network” columns.
If you want to get a better picture of the data usage on your computer you rely on the information in the network settings section. Navigate to Settings -> Network & Internet. Select the top item on the left-hand navigation pane “Data usage”.
Consider deleting or closing apps and programs that you don’t use (often) to speed up the performance of your computer. If that doesn’t help proceed with step 3.
- Contact your internet service provider to see if you can upgrade your speeds. Often this comes with a cost, but more than once we have seen them lower their price to get you on an upgraded contract.
Internet connectivity issues can be debilitating but many are easily resolved with a few simple steps. As always, feel free to contact Meeting Tree Computer for this or any computer issues you have. We’re here to help!
